Love After Lock-Up Hello, friends, and welcome! My name is Oliver Rocher (pronounced “Ro-shay”). I am African American, Native American, and French Creole. I am 40 years old, and my charges are selling drugs and a gun charge. I have been incarcerated for 7.5 years and have only 18 months remaining due to new law changes. Sadly, I have no children yet. And yes, I am single. I enjoy writing, traveling, volunteering for good causes, dancing, and investing. I am family-oriented with strong values. The most influential people in my life were women: my mother, Alice, and my sister, April, who have both passed away. I learned a lot from them, and their teachings still influence me to this day. One of the lessons they taught me is that “a woman can handle any situation as long as you tell her the absolute truth from the very beginning.” I believe we all need a breath of relief, especially from a friend or companion. I am nonviolent. I believe violence is for people who feel trapped and can’t think of a logical way out of a situation. I hope to see the real you, with all your struggles, because the best part of you is overcoming them. The best part of me is overcoming my own struggles, which came from not seeing that I let other people’s addictions tempt me, through greed, into selling drugs for money.
